PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS

Coming to a new church can be an intimidating experience. We want you to feel as comfortable as possible at Trinity, while you are getting to know us. In the spirit of hospitality and welcoming, we offer the following:

Newcomer Connection Partners

When you fill out a “Connection Card”, you start in motion the process of getting to know each other at Trinity. One of our friendly Connection ’ Visitors will be phoning you to introduce her/himself and answer any questions you have about Trinity and it’s activities. She/he will assist you in entering into the life and worship of Trinity at a pace that is comfortable for you.

Fellowship Time

Every Sunday following the 9:15 and 11:15 services (10:00 am in the summer), there’s coffee, tea and juice served in the Parish Hall. It’s an opportunity to say “hi” to people in a relaxing atmosphere, and, who knows, you might be meeting one of your neighbours!

While there, check out the Events Table and sign up for one of the many activities that interest you. Or go into the Library to sign out a book, video or cassette tape - all selected to encourage you in your faith development. Cd's of the previous weeks’ sermons are available here.

Newcomer Desserts

These informal coffee and dessert occasions are held on Friday evenings on a regular basis. They are orientation events designed to help newcomers feel more “at home” at Trinity. The time is spent hearing a bit about life at Trinity, our purposes and programs. You will have an opportunity for conversation with the church staff and meeting other newcomers like yourself. Plus there’s a question and answer period with our rector, Harold Percy. You will receive your personal invitation to a Newcomers’ Dessert after filling out the Connection Card.

Membership Course

At Trinity we believe there is an important difference between attending church and making the intentional decision to become a fully participating member of the church.

Membership in a particular church is an important decision that deserves careful thought and consideration. Our membership course entitled “What am I Getting Into?” is offered three times a year and should help you decide if membership at Trinity is for you.

The Course is held alternatively over two consecutive weeknight sessions or on a Saturday. It includes teaching sessions, introduction of some lay leaders and the ministries they shepard, a personal conversation with one of our staff and gives you all the information you will need in order to make a decision about membership in Trinity. We consider membership to be a covenant. You are officially welcomed at a subsequent Sunday Worship service, and helped to find the next appropriate step to take in Christian learning, growth and service.

Parish Life Events

Trinity offers a variety of social events – at least one per month – so parishioners can get acquainted on an informal basis and to help welcome Newcomers into the life of our church. These events include dinner clubs, picnics, parties, concerts, and dances – all kinds of celebrations. You will see notices of these events in the weekly bulletin. Please consider these notices your invitation to attend!

Congregational Care

At Trinity, Congregational Care is made up of a variety of ministries in which compassionate and skilled lay people work with our clergy to care for our own congregation and reach out to our community. Each of these ministries is supported and supervised by Lay Coordinators, under the directions of The Rev. Harold Percy.

The following teams are the building blocks of congregational care at Trinity.

  • Our Stephen Ministers meet with people one-on-one to provide support and friendship to those wrestling with the painful crises and life changes that may come our way.
  • Our Prayer and Healing Ministry Teams highlight the importance of prayer at Trinity. During the two main worship services, members of our Sunday Prayer Team are available to pray individually with people. A Parish Prayer Team meets monthly to pray together for specific needs in the congregation, and a Telephone Prayer Chain mobilizes this team to pray for other specific concerns that arise. Licensed Lay Anointers and Holy Communion Administrants offer important sacramental ministry to those in crisis or shut in.
  • Trinity’s Care Connection provides short term, immediate assistance to parishioners in crisis situations. This assistance includes meals delivered to the home and, in some cases, emergency childcare.
  • Finally, our Congregational Care ministry also offers programs in Marriage Preparation, Baptismal Preparation and Bereavement Support.

For information on any of these programs please call the Church Office (905) 826-1901.

Faith Development and Spiritual Growth

At Trinity we are pleased to offer several ways to help people develop their spiritual life. One of the great privileges of a Christian community is the opportunity to help each other learn more about God - who He is, how He is involved in our lives and what he desires of us. Although the Sunday morning services provide one such opportunity we recognize that it is not enough.

There are two other types of opportunities you will find at Trinity that we are available to all.

The first is our small group ministry, called L.I.F.E. groups (Learning, Inspiring, Friendship, Encouraging), which are right at the heart of our community life. They are small groups of 6-12 people who meet weekly or biweekly in various homes throughout our community with a trained lay leader guiding them. These groups offer a chance to make friends, to share your concerns and issues, to pray with each other and to learn more about God. There is no prerequisite to joining one of these groups, everyone is welcome.

A second opportunity is through our Discipleship program. This includes a number of courses covering a wide variety of issues, such as prayer, the study of the Bible, the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives and Christianity in the workplace, to name a few. Some of the courses run for 6 weeks, while others are only one session; they are held either on evenings or weekends. A good place to start is by taking Christianity 101, a four-week course for people who want to discover or rediscover what is at the heart of the Christian faith. More information on the L.I.F.E. groups and the Discipleship offerings are available through calling the Church office.

PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN

BABYLAND is Trinity’s childcare service for infants and toddlers. There are two rooms located on the lower level: one for infants to steady walkers (approx.18 months) and another for toddlers aged 18 months and up. These rooms are staffed by volunteers during the family services. Please take your infants / toddlers to their room before the service to give them time to settle in. We require that you sign-in / sign-out your infants / toddlers for reasons of safety. This also gives you a chance to share information with the childcare providers. We understand that sometimes parents choose to bring their babies into the service. In order that everyone might be able to receive the maximum enjoyment and benefit from the service, we ask that prior to the sermon, children be taken to the childcare rooms or to The Comfort Corner in the parish hall. TV monitors are located in both the parish hall and the infant room for you to follow the service.

F.R.O.G. Junction is the program for preschool children (3 ½ years) to Grade 6. We have age-appropriate curriculum for each of the classrooms. Our approach is hand-on based learning. We use a variety of songs, games, crafts, skits and discussion as our “small” community learns to follow Jesus. After a few minutes of singing in the worship service, the children are dismissed to their “Small” Group on the lower level. On the first Sunday of the month the children meet for Large Group, after which they return to the service to receive Holy Communion with their families.

Summer Day Camp: This year our program is called "Power Lab" and it runs from July 14 to July 18, 2008. Registration forms will be available in May 2008 for participants (Kindergarten to grade six) and leaders (Grade seven and up)

We also produce a yearly Children’s Musical with practices running through January and February and shows in early March. The 2008 musical will be “First Action Heroes”. Rehearsals have begun and the showtime is Feb 29 and Mar 1, 2008.

Contact: Heather Sandre (sanwill@sympatico.ca)

Parents please remember that we need you to pick up your children, from their groups on the lower level, immediately following the conclusion of the worship service. It’s a great time to say “hi” to the leaders and to learn about the daily lesson!
